Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) has a long-standing tradition of environmental stewardship and resource conservation. In 1972, one of the first recycling centers on the east coast was established in this community by an HCPS science teacher and motivated group of volunteers. Patterson Mill High School sophomore and student-athlete Rick Snyder was recently diagnosed with cancer and has undergone a difficult surgery and several treatments and has been unable to attend school. The student body at Patterson Mill rallied in support of their fellow Husky and in just three days, the students and Patterson Mill community collected more than $5,000 to donate to the Johns Hopkins Hospital Pediatric Oncology Center! Molleshree Karna, daughter of Shashi Karna and Vandana Karna of Bel Air, and a junior at Aberdeen High School, has been selected to participate in the Resident Honors Program (RHP) at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. This fall, Molleshree is one of twenty-eight students, selected from a nationwide search, to participate in this highly competitive early entrance honors program. Molleshree has been awarded a Deans Scholarship from USC and will begin her major studies in Biomedical Engineering in the Viterbi School of Engineering.
