Harford Community College Awarded Grant for Civil War Discussion Series

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office awarded Harford Community College a grant to present programming that probes the meanings of the American Civil War.

In observance of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the College’s Library will partner with the Harford County Public Library, the Spirits of Tudor Hall, and the Historical Society of Harford County to promote and present a five-part reading discussion series, “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War,” to the public in spring 2012. Conference to Focus on Treatment of Traumatized Youth

School, Community, and Clinical Perspectives to be Explored

(Bel Air, MD) - - The Harford County Department of Community Services’ Local Management Board will co-host a conference on Treating Traumatized Youth: School and Clinical Perspectives on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the HEAT Center, 1201 Technology Drive in Aberdeen.

The conference will present school, community, and clinical perspectives on treating traumatized youth. Experts will offer advice on how to make an accurate diagnosis and provide tools to use when working with youth who have experienced trauma (inability to attach, cutting, therapeutic resistance). The conference is geared toward social workers, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, school counselors, and law enforcement. Read more...

“Technology Needs Teens” at Harford Community College on May 25

On May 25, Harford Community College will host 180 students from nine Harford County middle schools for the 4th Annual “TNT--Technology Needs Teens,” a day filled with science and technology fun. TNT is a one-day program for a select group of eighth grade students to learn from hands-on presentations by science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals.
