Edgewood High Supports Special Olympics

About fifty spring athletes and coaches from Edgewood High School (EHS) recently gathered at Harford Community College for the Inspiration 5K Run/Walk to support Special Olympics in Harford County. This is the 3rd year these athletes have joined forces to support this local cause, and they raised approximately $500 this year through their participation. Read more...

HCC’s Heidi Neff to Serve on Board of National Arts Organization

Heidi Neff, Assistant Professor in the Visual, Performing and Applied Arts Division of Harford Community College, was recently elected to serve on the Board of Officers of Foundations in Art: Theory and Education (FATE), a national arts organization.  In her position as the Vice President for Regional Coordinators, Neff will recruit and mentor new FATE Regional Representatives and advise them on developing events that promote excellence in foundations instruction. Edgewood High Teacher Local Winner of Barnes & Noble Contest

Barnes & Noble recently announced that Carolyn Wiland, from Edgewood High School was named the local winner of the “Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest.” Ms. Wiland was chosen from more than 100 entries at the Barnes & Noble in Bel Air. LSHG’s Lisanti Appointed to Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail Advisory Council

Edgewood Middle, Deerfield Elementary & GEEF Partner to Promote Literacy

Edgewood Middle School’s (EMS) sixth grade students spent time recently reading to second and fourth grade classes at Deerfield Elementary School. Their goal was to educate their younger counterparts on the importance of making reading at home a habit. The activity was an extension of their service learning project to benefit the Greater Edgewood Education Foundation’s Books-In-Hand program. EMS sixth graders sponsored a book drive to support this program which helps students improve reading scores over the summer. Read more...

College Savings Plans of Maryland Enrollment Increases 28%

(Baltimore, MD) – The College Savings Plans of Maryland, the independent Maryland State agency that offers two tax-advantaged 529 plans, the Maryland Prepaid College Trust and the Maryland College Investment Plan, has seen college savings increase in importance. After 4 months of open enrollment, the Maryland Prepaid College Trust experienced its largest number of enrollments since 2004, with over 2,500 new enrollments, representing a 28% increase over the previous year’s open enrollment period. The Maryland College Investment Plan has also seen a 28% increase in new accounts opened in the first quarter of 2011 as compared with the same time period in 2010. Read more...
