Harford Tech Graduate Wins World Online Art Contest

Congratulations to Katie Snyder, a 2011 Harford Technical High School graduate, for being named the overall winner in the 2011 Sargent Art Brighter World Online Art Contest for her mixed media painting of chicks! She won an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City July 15-17, 2011, where she will join other Youth Art Month state winners, parents and art teachers who will be arriving from 13 different states, for a fun-filled weekend. Art Exhibit to Celebrate 21 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act

“Art Without Boundaries” to be on display at the Student Gallery, Joppa Hall, Harford Community College

(Bel Air, MD) - - July 1 through July 31, artists with and without disabilities will demonstrate that art has no boundaries at an exhibit at the Student Gallery in Joppa Hall at Harford Community College, 401 Thomas Run Road, Bel Air. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., Fridays from 7:30 a.m. until 9:15 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The Student Gallery is closed on Sundays. Magnolia Middle School Nets First Place in Musical Competition

Congratulations to the band, orchestra and chorus of Magnolia Middle School that all earned first-place trophies at Hershey Park’s “Music In The Parks” competition recently. The orchestra and band earned excellent ratings, and the chorus earned a superior rating. In addition, the band and chorus also took home the Overall Division A and AA trophies. Read more...

Harford Community College Awarded Grant for Civil War Discussion Series

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office awarded Harford Community College a grant to present programming that probes the meanings of the American Civil War.

In observance of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the College’s Library will partner with the Harford County Public Library, the Spirits of Tudor Hall, and the Historical Society of Harford County to promote and present a five-part reading discussion series, “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War,” to the public in spring 2012. New Ownership at the Dance Conservatory of Maryland and Harford Ballet Company

Bel Air, MD – The Dance Conservatory of Maryland and Harford Ballet Company is proud to announce the kick-off of operations under the ownership of Artistic Director, Barclay Gibbs.

Mrs. Gibbs has been the Artistic Director of DCM since 2008 and came to DCM and HBC from the dance department at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins. Mrs. Gibbs received her early dance training at the Peabody Preparatory, Towson University, the Baltimore School for the Arts, and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Read more...

Harford Dance Theatre Presents Canvases 2011 at the Amoss Center

Harford Dance Theatre, the semi-professional resident dance company at Harford Community College, will present Canvases 2011 on Saturday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Amoss Center in Bel Air.

Harford Ballet Company Presents Fancy Nancy Extravaganza

Bel Air, MD – The Harford Ballet Company (HBC), resident company of the Dance Conservatory of Maryland, is headlining its spring production with Fancy Nancy Extravaganza. Featuring professional artists as well as local Harford County students, the performances will take place June 11 at 6 p.m. and June 12 at 1 p.m. at Bel Air High School.

Harford Sings! A Celebration of Choral Music to Benefit the Center for the Arts

Bel Air, MD – Harford Sings! is bringing together more than one hundred singers from across Harford County for a celebration of choral music to benefit the Center for the Arts.  The concert, which will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 7pm at Patterson Mill Middle/High School, will feature highlights from the repertoire of eight talented choral groups, including the Avondell Singers, Bay Country Gentlemen, Bel Air Community Chorus, Deer Creek Chorale, Harford Choral Society, Susquehanna Singers, Upper Chesapeake Chorus and Vocal Obsession.  Rick Taylor, Master Director of the Upper Chesapeake Chorus, will serve as emcee of the event. Upper Chesapeake Chorus Takes Top Honors in Regional Competition

The talented divas of Harford County’s Upper Chesapeake Chorus took two top awards in the Sweet Adelines Mid-Atlantic Region chorus competition against 22 other choruses from Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Harford County Historic Preservation Commission Announces 2011 Award Recipients

(Bel Air, MD) The Harford County Historic Preservation Commission has announced its 16th annual award recipients during a breakfast ceremony at the Liriodendron Mansion on Gordon Street in Bel Air. County Executive David Craig began the morning by reading a proclamation declaring the month of May to be National Historic Preservation Month. Library Honors Volunteers at Annual Celebration

(Belcamp, Maryland) Harford County Public Library recently held its annual Volunteer Celebration. Themed Harford County Public Library Salutes Our Volunteers, this event celebrated the dedication of all its 1,273 library volunteers but particularly thanked the 150 volunteers that were in attendance.

Harford Community College Students Earn CLAD Certification
