HCPS Will Implement AVID in Two Middle Schools This Year

Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) is excited to announce it will implement AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, at Aberdeen and Havre de Grace middle schools this coming school year. Outdoor Adventure Camp 2011

The Harford County Department of Parks & Recreation is offering 2 one-week Outdoor Adventure Camps for children between the ages of 11-14.

Week 1 will be held Monday-Friday, July 11-July 15, 2011 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Week 2 will be held Monday-Friday, August 1-August 5, 2011.

Each day brings campers a new experience at a different site. Campers will experience ropes challenges, canoe basics, kayaking, spelunking (caving) and rock wall climbing. Transportation will be provided from Kelly Fields in Bel Air to the various camp sites. Read more...

Havre de Grace Library Branch Unveils New Teen Room

(Belcamp, Maryland) Harford County Public Library Havre de Grace Branch unveiled a dedicated Teen Room recently. Designed and decorated by the teens, this room will be a new destination for many local youth.

Jennifer Brown (pictured on left), age 15 from Havre de Grace High School and Mira League (pictured on right), age 14 from Edgewood High School were both on hand for the activities. “It was cool to help design how the room would look and be able to help decorate it,” stated Jennifer Brown. “This included painting the walls with splatter paint!” Read more...

Harford Tech Graduate Wins World Online Art Contest

Congratulations to Katie Snyder, a 2011 Harford Technical High School graduate, for being named the overall winner in the 2011 Sargent Art Brighter World Online Art Contest for her mixed media painting of chicks! She won an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City July 15-17, 2011, where she will join other Youth Art Month state winners, parents and art teachers who will be arriving from 13 different states, for a fun-filled weekend.
